Board of Adjustment

• Comprised of 5 citizen appointees
• Members appointed by Board of Supervisors for 5 year terms
• Act in quasi-judicial capacity
• Decisions only subject to appeal in local court system

If your application for a Zoning Permit is denied, you have the option to appeal the decision of the Zoning Administrator and seek a Special Exception or Variance from the Board of Adjustment.  A Special Exception is a specific allowance written into the Zoning Ordinance with certain standards that must be met.  A variance may only be granted if you can demonstrate a hardship caused by the rules of the ordinance.  The Board has the final authority to make a decision for a request.
