Winter Operation
Winter Operation Facts
What times are plows typically on the road?
Plows and Graders are on the roadway from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. At the Engineers discretion the snow clearing operations can start before 5:00 a.m. or extend past 6:00 p.m. if it's deemed necessary by the County Engineer.
What roads receive service first?
Plow routes are designed to clear the paved roads as soon as possible with 2 lane traffic. It is possible there are periods of time during a storm the roadway may be less than 2 lanes for a period of time. Overtime will be utilized to get paved roadways open to 2 lane traffic and subsequent clearing and pushing snow farther back will happen during normal business hours.
When do plows get pulled off the roadways?
When conditions are too hazardous for the operators to effectively plow the roads due to visibility or other concerns the engineer will make a professional judgment call and pull the plows until conditions improve.
Is there a time limit to when snow will be removed?
There is no specific time limit, however it is our goal to have two lane traffic open on all roads within 48 hours or as soon as safely possible.
My mailbox was damaged. Does the county pay for that?
The county only repairs damage caused by direct contact with equipment. Any damage caused by the snow propelled off the equipment is not the responsibility of the County.
