E911 Board

The purpose of the Cerro Gordo County E911 Service Board is to plan, implement, manage, and maintain local enhanced emergency communication and dispatch systems for the public.

Core Responsibilities and Purpose

  • System Administration: Oversee the operation, development, and technical integration of local Enhanced 911 (E911) networks.
  • Financial Governance: Manage, collect, and disburse local 911 surcharge funds collected from phone and communication service bills to cover equipment, facility upgrades, mapping databases, and maintenance contracts.

Board Membership Structure

Established through joint agreements under state law, an E911 Service Board brings together local government units to ensure a centralized, unified approach. Membership generally includes:

  • A designated representative from the County Board of Supervisors
  • A representative from each political subdivision that has a public safety agency that provides emergency services within the county
  • The Emergency Management Agency Coordinator
  • The County Sheriff
  • The Chief of Police of any city within the county that operates a public safety answering point
  • Private emergency service agencies who operate within the county are allowed to participate but are non-voting members of the board
