License Reinstatement Assistant: Full-time position available with the Cerro Gordo County Attorney’s Office to perform work associated with the driver’s license reinstatement program. Administrative/clerical experience preferred. Experience with general bookkeeping/finance and knowledge of legal terminology and the criminal justice system preferred. Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred. We accept application forms only and resumes without an application are not considered. Summary:
Performs work associated with the North Iowa License Reinstatement Program, including case review, court attendance, preparation of documents and pleadings, and direct contact with Cerro Gordo County & Floyd County defendants in person and via phone. Also responsible for facilitating driver’s license reinstatement agreements and working to return insured/legal drivers to the road. Screens individuals referred from Judges, the Iowa Department of Transportation, the Cerro Gordo/Floyd County Treasurer’s Office, and community agencies to determine eligibility for the program. Prepares documents for payment of court-ordered financial obligations and lifting of driver’s license suspension and holds on vehicle registration. Maintains case records/files. Monitors compliance with the requirements of the program and keeps supervising attorney informed of the status of the case.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Screens walk-ins and phone calls to determine eligibility for the program in accordance with specific criteria by reviewing the application, court records and criminal history; initiates necessary documents/actions for timely filing with the Cerro Gordo County & Floyd County Clerks of Court.
Speaks directly to applicants, answers questions about the program, gathers/verifies information; prepares/secures a financial agreement for payment of court-ordered financial obligations; prepares instructions for applicants; monitors contracts for compliance with terms/conditions; notifies the supervising attorney and/or the court of individuals who have failed to comply with the agreement.
Coordinates program matters with the Iowa Department of Transportation, Cerro Gordo/Floyd County Treasurer’s Office, and the Cerro Gordo County & Floyd County Clerks of Court.
Handles payments made by check, cashier’s check, and/or money order in strict compliance with office policy. Handles defendant/participant information in accordance with office policy and maintains the highest standard of confidentiality.
Attends court hearings as necessary to report case status to the court and provide individual defendant information. Attends court periodically to answer questions about the License Reinstatement Program; attends community meetings to explain program requirements; acts as liaison for the Cerro Gordo County Attorney’s Office to promote the North Iowa License Reinstatement Program to defendants deemed delinquent.
Monitors changes to laws/regulations relevant to the program and coordinates with the supervising attorney to update program policies/procedures.
Maintains case records, compiles reports for the court; maintains records of amounts paid; maintains a computerized database for case monitoring/management; provides notice to involved parties of status of the cases; prepares reports/correspondence.
Exercises initiative, or as directed, performs additional duties to meet the needs of the organization.

Ability to obtain automobile insurance if personal vehicle is ever used for county business for which mileage reimbursement would be received. To be reimbursed for mileage, must provide proof of auto insurance with the following minimum limits:
$100,000 bodily injury for each person
$300,000 bodily injury for each occurrence
$100, 000 property damage
OR
$300,000 single limit for all liability
