The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Auditor and the Deputy Auditor of Elections. The primary duty will be to assist with preparing for and carrying out elections. This person will serve the public and officials conducting business with the Auditor’s Office and provide clerical and accounting support to the Auditor. Hours worked will typically be Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30PM with some evening and weekend hours required as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by up to one (1) year previous experience and/or college level work or vocational training in office administration; secretarial or word processing and spreadsheet skills; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working as a Precinct Election Official or in a County Auditor’s Office preferred.

Summary:
The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Auditor and the Deputy Auditor of Elections. The primary duty will be to assist with preparing for and carrying out elections. This person will serve the public and officials conducting business with the Auditor’s Office and provide clerical and accounting support to the Auditor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide prompt and efficient service to the public and other employees doing business with the County Auditor’s office in person, by mail, email, and/or telephone. Compose routine correspondence, billings, and complete forms. Perform data entry. Maintain spreadsheets and documents and produce various reports. Serve as Notary Public.
Assist with the preparation, conduct, and follow-up work of elections. Proof, count, and sort ballots; register voters; assist voters with absentee voting; update voter registration databases; maintain absentee voter records; receive, record, and distribute absentee ballots; provide general assistance to voters, Precinct Election Officials, and Auditor Office staff.
While the following tasks are necessary, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other department members: serve as back-up to receive and enter claims into computer to produce claim listing; serve as back-up to process, print, manage, and distribute warrants, assist with routine office duties.

- Ability to produce reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
- Ability to effectively communicate with others using correct English.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
- Ability to exercise good judgement, decisiveness, and creativity in various situations.
- Ability to exchange information for the purpose of obtaining information or to clarify details.
- Ability to represent Cerro Gordo County in a professional manner.
Education and Experience:

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be physically able to start, stop, operate, and monitor a variety of automated office machines and equipment.
Must be able to move or carry job-related objects or materials. Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (20-30 pounds).
Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for sedentary or office environment work. Some tasks require visual perception and discriminations.
Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to physical harm caused by an emotional consumer or the public.
Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Work is normally performed in an office environment. Headaches, eyestrain, carpal tunnel, and related occupations hazards associated with computer work reflect most common potential for injury.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Comments:
Must have a valid Iowa Driver's License and have reliable transportation. Must be insurable for driving under county insurance company policies.
