CLERK – SHERIFF’S OFFICE: Full-time position available with the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Office to provide general clerical and accounting support to the Sheriff and assistance to the general public. A high school diploma or GED, supplemented by up to 6 months previous experience and/or training in legal profession preferred. Requirements are 18 years of age, good driving record and minimum typing speed of 45 wpm.

Summary:
Provides general clerical and accounting support to the Sheriff; provides assistance to the general public and officials conducting business with the Sheriff’s office; and performs additional tasks as may be assigned by the Office Manager, or Sheriff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides prompt and efficient service to the public, law enforcement officials, and other employees doing business with the Sheriff’s office in person, by mail and/or by telephone.
Provides clerical and accounting support to the Sheriff. Type’s reports, business correspondence, tapes, juror summons, civil process returns, forms and other matters directly involved with the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department using word processor or typewriter. Processes incoming and outgoing mail. (Stamps and dates all incoming mail.)
Receipts all monies received, costs paid, date paid and by whom received. Prepares bank statements for deposits.
Prepares notice of sheriff’s sales, abandoned vehicles, condemnations and garnishments.
Tracks time worked by Sheriff’s Department personnel for payroll. Prepares total time record in activity codes for Sheriff. Maintains record of vacation time, pick days and sick leave earned and taken by employees. Prepares new employee and salary adjustments.
Assists with bills, revenue and budget.
Assists with processing county accidents/incidents.
Assists with Iowa Sex Offender Registry.
Assists with scheduling courtroom and training room.
Performs computer data input of records and reports. Posts information to records. Files records and reports.
Types coded commands on computer terminal keyboard to enter, retrieve, or delete data using knowledge of coding system.
Issues operation identification numbers to public.
Assists in issuing permits to acquire weapons, check record, types permit and indexes permit.
Assists in issuing permits to carry concealed weapons make copies for master file, and indexes permits.
Assists in completion of monthly reports.
Helps maintain inventory of office supplies, replenishing as may be required. Runs errands for the office.
Designs forms and templates through the computer database to meet the needs of the office.
Assists with Electronic Document Management System (EDMS).
Assists with Sheriff’s Office Face Book Page.
Assists with Sheriff’s Office Twitter Account.
Assists with Law Enforcement Technology Group (LETG).
Assists with Accident Public Records.
Assists in retrieving and sorting documents from courthouse.
Assists in billing out-of-county prisoner’s room and board.
Assists in serving civil papers.
Assists in fuel tax reports.
Performs other related duties as required.

Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed as follows are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.
Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may require ability to utilize principles of fractions and/or interpret graphs.
Ability to accurately handle cash transactions and subsequent receipting and posting functions according to established procedures.
Ability to compile, assemble, copy, record and/or transcribe data and/or information according to a prescribed protocol. Includes judging whether readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics are similar to or divergent from prescribed standards, procedures or routines.
Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data, information and forms such as policy/procedure manuals, legal documents, plat book, maps, computer and software manuals, billing statements, deposit slips, purchase orders, receipts and fee ledgers, time records and permits/licenses.
Ability to produce reports and correspondence with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Ability to communicate with and before others using correct English.
Ability to exchange information for the purpose of obtaining information or clarifying details. Performs such within well-established policies, procedures and standards.
Ability to communicate well with others and to understand the varied functions of the Sheriff’s office in order to meet the various needs of the general public, business and professional contacts, county employees and officials doing business with the office; ability to utilize available resources to assist clientele or make appropriate referrals to meet the needs of the customer.
Ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by up to six (6) months previous experience and/or training in legal profession preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position. Minimum data entry speed of 45 wpm.

Must be able to move or carry job-related objects or materials. Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (25-30 pounds).
Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for sedentary or office environment work. Some tasks require visual perception and discriminations.
Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

Comments:
Must have a valid Iowa Driver's License and have reliable transportation. Must be insurable for driving under county insurance company policies.
Ability to obtain automobile insurance if personal vehicle is ever used for county business for which mileage reimbursement would be received. To be reimbursed for mileage, must provide proof of auto insurance with the following minimum limits:
- $100,000 bodily injury for each person
- $300,000 bodily injury for each occurrence
- $100, 000 property damage
- OR
- $300,000 single limit for all liability
